I'm at a loss here trying to cope with the negative reviews of DriveClub VR. I'm a huge fan of the original as well as many other driving games. I use a T300Rs wheel and Open Wheeler driving chair because I love driving that much. DCVR was one of the titles I was looking forward to the most on PSVR as I have been waiting YEARS to drive or fly something in VR.So are the negative reviews just coming from people that at not big fans of simulation racing in general and because of that they critiqued the graphics extra hard? People are sounding like it is so bad that it's unplayable.
Are the screenshots a lie? All the demos, youtube videos and reviews before launch all lies too? Finally, could there be differences between the demo and the full title that casual first time PSVR buyers are overlooking?
Maybe they just did not get into using the DS4?. I was also sad when I first started up drive club vr, (full game)I read reviews that basically said it looked like drive club but with out dynamic weather and lighting/texture downgraded. It's just not true it looks bad no other way to say it, it's strange to feel like you are one step forward in technology having an immersive experience at the same time as going years backwards in visual representation. I'm still going to give it some more time but man its not as pretty as I was hoping. I wonder about GT sport graphics and how the vr part of that game will be handled. I completely agree with you, I don't know what it is about this game, but my god it was disappointing the first time I entered the cockpit view.
Without sounding douchey, it really felt like I was playing gran turismo 1 on the ps1. Things close to me were blurry and all cars a few car lengths ahead of my were pixelated beyond recognition, like the draw distance was next to nothing. The buildings had zero texture and the trees and natural assets were laughable. I didn't understand, I calibrated everything as much as possible, then realized it was mostly just driveclub that looked like this because eve, battlezone, and rigs all looked leaps and bounds better.I see people describe how great this game looks and feels in VR, and I just don't understand it, it's like they are playing a different game. It might just be the demo for me. IPD is that when you take pic of eyes and measure pupil distance?I did that a couple times (once in direct middle of pupil another to furthest outside), and honestly I can see graphics fine in any other game or demo.I dunno I can see the stuff but I could barely read the speedometer - I had to lean forward and let the game focus.
I get this weird jitter when I'm sitting still (not moving headset) like a camera that is contantly trying to refocus every couple seconds- that may have to do with it. Do not trust any screenshots / videos you see of any VR title. The graphics are not indicative of what you see inside the headset. It will most definitely look worse inside the headset than anything you see on the internet. As long as you have your expectations in check, understanding that the game won't look anywhere near as good as the base game does on PS4 then it's still perfectly easy to be sucked in and feel immersed in the game.Using a wheel will help with the immersion, no doubt. But plenty of people played DC with a dualshock, so that shouldn't really matter that much. I play Project Cars with my Rift and an XB1 controller and it feels fine to me. A wheel would be better, but I don't race enough to warrant the purchase in my opinion. And finally it comes down to whether or not VR sickness affects you.
Some games hit people hard, and it looks like this game is a big culprit. Maybe the framerate isn't smooth enough which is causing issues with the VR mode, who knows. I personally loved the demo. Always loved racing games but never been amazing at then.

Grand Prix 3 on pc is still one of my all time favourites.Never been good with the 'first person' view modes, but this just blew me away. Yes the graphics could be better but honestly I forgot about that FAST. Rock band 3 downloadable songs. Never felt so immersed in a driving game (and this was playing with a pad), looking in mirrors/over shoulders to see where the others are.I'm definitely not a game snob, lower res/iffy graphics never put me off games, i'll 100% be getting this at some point (but trying not to over spend at moment, wedding costs etc!). I didn't think the demo track was particularly well chosen. I think there are tracks that are easier on the eye. Having played about 3 hours now of the full game, I'm enjoying myself a lot. I also have the HTC Vive and I remember having to get over the poor resolution of that when I first got it.
At least the PSVR doesn't have a glarring screendoor effect. Driveclub does look blurrier than most other VR titles, but then most other titles don't have to draw a field of detailed cars at a consistent high framerate. I think the racing feels great, on par with the original Driveclub. It plays well with my dual shock and my T300 as well.
It's much more arcadey than Assetto Corsa but I appreciate the variation. I have had no problems with nausea whatsoever with this title. I think this game is a steal at the discounted price for the huge amount of content that you get.
And if you can let go of your preconceptions and initial disappointment then there is a lot of fun to be had.

Rustchynsky also answered more fan questions on Twitter about DriveClub, which we’ve placed below:
- On AI rubber-banding: “The AI cannot cheat. If you’re better than them you can get way ahead. Good luck doing that on legendary AI though.”
- On what the weather patch will affect: “We’ll be adding in new events as part of the tour packs that will feature weather.”
- We should “hopefully” be getting new videos and a new trailer based off final DriveClub code.
- “Yes,” your progress from the PlayStation Plus Edition can carry over to the physical version.
- “Split-screen isn’t impossible, but it would be a big challenge.”
- The load times for the digital and retail versions “are identical as they both install to the HDD.”
- Paul said, “Most tracks are actually circuits that allow multiple laps,” when asked if there were any circuit tracks where we can race more than one lap.
- Paul said, “Camera views aren’t adjustable,” when someone asked if you could adjust the field of view in the cockpit.
- Paul answered what he thinks the fastest car is in the game: “Tough one. Either the P1, Venom, or Gumpert – but it depends on the track.”
- He was asked if we can expect a Lamborghini, Camaro, Mustang, or Bugatti in the upcoming DLC. He replied, “You’ll find out nearer launch ;).”
Which car are you most excited to drive?
